FEDERAZIONE PAGANA
Though the name has the same meaning, Federazione Pagana isn’t the Italian branch of English Pagan Federation (and this is the reason why its member decided not to traslate the name even in non-Italian written documents).
Federazione Pagana is an organization working for supporting paganism in Italy; though roman tradition is evident in rites and names, Federazione Pagana wants to be a confederation of groups and individuals and it doesn’t discriminate on the basis of pagan tradition. Federazione Pagana is officially born as a legal association in 2002 (that doesn’t mean the state recognize us, nor paganism as a religion), but its members started working some years before, with conferences, rites, broadcasting from a little local radio near Padua and contacts with WCER The Pontifex is elected by all members and s/he works only as delegate (pontifex means in facts he who makes bridges): s/he can be the person who leads the rites, but this is not the rule. The Pontifex continues in office for three years; at the beginning of 2003 Claudio Simeoni was elected Pontifex by Federazione Pagana’s members.

Except from other activities like conferences and so on, we gather five times a year for seasonal rites to which all members, apart from the tradition they follow or choose, can take part (for example, during Spring Equinox rite we celebrate the birth evoking many Gods of many pagan paths) and for a Federal Rite in August, during which we call the Gods pronouncing the devotio, an ancient roman rite.
Seasonal rites are celebrated near the Sacred Wood in Jesolo (Venice): the Pontifex and the Flamen, Franco Santin, who planted the trees and takes care of the area, are working in order to obtain respect for the area.

As symbol of Federazione Pagana, we choose the five-pointed star inside a circle: though this is more known as a wiccan sign, actually it’s an ancient symbol (used also by Pythagorean) which was often represented with the word salus (in latin) o igiea (greek); since today the Italian word derived from salus has a restricted meaning (health, physical wellness), we give it an extended meaning with the letters explaining it: the circle is the universe in which the man (the star) lives. The upper point of the stars is reason through which man describes the world, left and right point represent seeing and feeling (and also hearing, tasting… senses and emotions), lower points are everyday world and the world of gods as man perceives it.
